Pee Dee Mental Health Center

Pee Dee Mental Health Center is a state-operated community mental health center providing outpatient services to children, adolescents, adults, and families in Florence, Darlington, and Marion counties.

Services offered:

  • Individual and family counseling
  • Psychiatric care and medication management
  • Substance use counseling
  • Crisis intervention

Insurance and payment:

  • Medicaid, Medicare, SC Healthy Connections
  • Sliding-fee scale based on family size and income
  • No one is denied services due to inability to pay

HopeHealth Behavioral Health Services

HopeHealth is a federally qualified health center with behavioral health counseling services available at multiple Florence locations. HopeHealth approaches mental health through an interdisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and case managers.

Services offered:

Psychiatric care
Counseling and psychotherapy
Substance use disorder counseling
Medication-assisted treatment

Note: To access behavioral health services at HopeHealth, you must first become a HopeHealth patient through a primary care visit.

The Leatherman Behavioral Care Pavilion

A major behavioral health facility representing a historic collaboration between McLeod Health, MUSC Health, HopeHealth, Francis Marion University, and the SC Department of Mental Health. Includes a 63-bed inpatient psychiatric unit.

Safe Places and Community Programs

Boys and Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area

Serves children and youth ages 6 to 18 with afterschool and summer programs focused on academic achievement, character development, and healthy lifestyles. Has specific outreach to youth affected by homelessness and serves children in the foster care system.

Six community centers offering programs for all ages at no or low cost. Includes Barnes Street Activity Center, Dr. Iola Jones Park, Levy Youth Center, Maple Park, and Mordecai C. Johnson.
